Jeanne Wilcox Deeply Sorry September 17, 2013

Cathy, Laura, and Dan

I am deeply sorry for your loss, it is so hard to lose a loved one, even when you know it is inevitable- the reality of the loss is raw and painful.  My heart goes out to each of you- and Cathy and Laura, how special that you were with him when he passed- it is a moment to cherish.  My thoughts are with you all.

Emily Davis Always Grateful September 17, 2013

Cathy- Sending all my love to you and your sweet family. You guys are incredible people. I pray that you will be comforted and filled with peace and love at this difficult time.

Dr. Bacon was an incredible person and I'm so grateful for the influence he had on my education and life. Not only was he a wonderful teacher, but he had the ability to make his students feel important and valued. I find it amazing that someone so important and busy found the time to do this. His kindness and time helped motivate me to continue my education, and for that I will always be grateful.

Dr. Bacon's love and legacy will live on and I am grateful that I could be a part of his journey here.

Dear Cathy and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I know I don't need to tell you what you already know-that Dr. Bacon was an amazing teacher and mentor; always supportive and challenging you to do better. I cannot begin to guess how many lives he impacted for the better and I count myself fortunate to be included among them. It is a blessing to know his passing was peaceful and he was with his family.

Su Martinetto hugs to all September 17, 2013

Cathy and family: As I sit here wrapped up in grief & anxiously waiting for the day to begin and end as we will say our goodbyes to dad, I think of Auntie Rose's response to when the phone call from mom about dads passing... " oh, what a lucky man" "I'm so happy for him!" .... What she continued to say was she wished it was her! But as I reflect on those words, they are actually really beautiful. And so I pass these words on to you.... Sid is lucky to be free of his pain and suffering, he was a lucky man to have had such a wonderful family and a blessed life. We are lucky God shared him with us! And like if said over and over this week as people offer their condolences, "I am so happy for him..... This is such a sad blessing!" I know you probably feel the same way! Please know that I will be holding you all close to my heart in prayer. May God be with you! Hugs to all! Love ya cous!

Wesley Grantham Tremendous Impact September 17, 2013

Dear Cathy and Family,

We were saddened by the news that Sid died on Thursday. Such a remarkable man! We hope you might find some comfort in knowing what a tremendous positive impact Sid has had on so many people, both through his exemplary life and career, and, more recently, in his regular gifts to us all via his journal entries during the last 18 months. I will miss reading his nuggets of news, charm, wisdom, reflection, and generosity that he posted during his, and your, battle. Team Bacon will live on! Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sincerely,
Wes and Beth

Heather Bimonte-Nelson Deepest Condolences September 17, 2013

My deepest condolences to all of you. Sid has been such an inspiration to so many. A parent and teacher's lessons live on through their children and students. His spirit and lessons will live on through so many and will continue to make the world a better place. We are all better from his inspiration and from knowing him. His sharing of his journey is a reflection of his courage, strength, and thoughtfulness. Peace, strength and love to you all through this difficult time.

Brian Smith Like a Brother September 17, 2013

Cathy, Laura and Dan, our deepest condolances.

I met Sid 40 years ago this summer as we made our decision to join our fraternity at KU.  That's all it took for a great friendship to begin.  I loved Sid like my brother.  He was a true friend, loving husband and father and great educator.  His life was a celebration of all things good, with first and foremost his family.  I will continue to celebrate our friendship and your life until we meet again my friend.

Brian, aka "Glen"
