Life story
July 24, 1955
 
Sid is born in Kansas City, Missouri.
February 14, 1956
 
Sid's "Gotchya Day", the day he was adopted by Marge and Bob Bacon.  He grew up with his big sister Su in Salina, Kansas, where he enjoyed sports including tennis and basketball.  
1973
 
Sid graduates from Salina Central High School and begins attending the University of Kansas.  During his freshman year at KU, he became a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
1977
 
Sid completes a bachelor's degree in speech and hearing sciences at the University of Kansas.
1979
 
Sid receives a master's degree in audiology from KU.  He spent the next six months as a visiting student at the Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
1980
 
Sid enrolls as a doctoral student in eperimental psychology at the University of Minnesota.  Early in his time there, he met Cathy Kittelson at a university retreat.  While cuddling together next to the fireplace one cold, fall night, Sid asked Cathy to be his wife.
August 1, 1981
 
Sid and Cathy get maried.  They spend their honeymoon in Quebec.
August 11, 1984
 
Cathy and Sid have their first child and only daughter, Laura.
1985
 
After completing his Ph.D. disertation and earning his doctorate from U of M, Sid completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Cambridge in England and Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
January 9, 1986
 
Sid and Cathy's second child and only son, Dan, is born.
June 1986
 
The Bacon family moves to Nashville, Tennessee where Sid works as an Assistant Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences at Vanderbilt University.  
1988
 
Sid is recruited to Arizona State University where as an Associate Professor in the Speech and Hearing Sciences Department.
1991
 
Sid accepts a position as head coach of the Phoenix Suns and is later disapointed to discover that it is actually his children's youth soccer team and that it paid much less than his teaching position.  Over the years, his coaching resume grew to include many t-ball, soccer and basketball teams.
1992
 
Sid is promoted to Full Professor.  He continues research that focuses on understanding basic aspects of hearing and relating the behavioral results to underlying physiology.
2003
 
Sid begins a four year appointment as the Department Chair of Speech and Hearing Sciences at ASU.
2007
 
Sid begins serving as the dean of Natural Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at ASU.
January 1, 2012
 
Sid becomes the associate vice president in the Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development at ASU.
January 13, 2012
 
On Friday the 13th, Sid was on his way to pick up his race packet for the Rock n' Roll 1/2 Marathon, when he received a call from his doctor.  Results from a recent ultrasound showed a mass on his pancreas and spots on his liver.  After a long 10 days of testing an waiting the diagnosis was confirmed:  Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer
