Wonderful Wednesday ...

Written July 3, 2013 4:00pm

I have had several good days lately.  The pain is under control and I haven’t been nauseous much at all.  I can’t ask for more.  Laura has been here most all of the time this past 7-10 days or so.  She has been a tremendous amount of help.  It has been great having her here, but of course she has her own life to live, so she’ll need to go to work and her house etc.  Fortunately she did go to her house and out with friends recently, so she got some good “no-parents time” in.

We are doing well at home.  We appreciate all the words of support – they are very helpful to all of us, Dan, Laura, Cathy, and me.  We thank you all very much.

I am going to discontinue the blog for today. I’m sorry it has been so infrequent lately; I’ll try to be more consistent in the future.

Thanks so much for all your love and support.

Too hot Tuesday

Written July 9, 2013 6:35pm

Cathy just finished a quilt (I think that is 4 since she made a quilt for Dan and Liz) and is starting another one.  She likes to keep busy.   And that she does.

I have only minor pain and nausea.  I don’t have an appetite, but I eat anyway. I don’t eat much, but just about enough to keep my weight constant.

Laura has been spending a lot of time at our house; she is a tremendous resource.  I don’t know what we would do without her.  She has been fantastic. Dan is coming back home this weekend; it will be great to see him.

Cathy’s sister, Mary, will be here then too, so we’ll have lots of fun.

We have so much to be thankful for. We appreciate all the support we have received thus far from the Team. And I know it will continue.  Thank you for all your support.

A Peaceful Goodbye
image Written July 12, 2013 12:22pm

We share the sad news this morning that Sid's long fight with pancreatic cancer came to a close.  Sid died peacefully on Thursday evening with Cathy and Laura by his side, talking with him and holding his hands.

Sid died at Mayo Clinic during a previously scheduled follow up appointment with palliative care. He had been having difficulty breathing and was given oxygen and drugs to keep him comfortable.  Within a few short hours, Sid had passed.

Dan and Liz are here now and we will be surrounded by more family members in the coming days.  The support from Team Bacon over the past 19 months has meant so much to our family.  Sid wore a bracelet with the words "No One Fights Alone"; however, not everyone is lucky enough to have such a large, strong, dedicated, and loving Team fighting with them  We will continue to use the CaringBridge site to update everyone with information on a memorial service.

A Toast to Sid
image

Written July 16, 2013 11:56am

As we plan to celebrate Sid’s life, we would like to invite you to share your memories or a “toast to Sid”, which will be displayed at the reception. Whether you will be with us this Saturday, or toasting from across the country, we would love to hear your memories.  You can email these to Cathy (cbacon@asu.edu). Many of you have already posted wonderful messages in the guestbook so feel free to forward these to Cathy's e-mail.  Please e-mail them by the end of Thursday so we have time to print and display them at the reception!

Looking forward to reading all the memories and toasts.
