Cathy,

My heart breaks to hear of Sid’s passing. I truly care for you and him so much. I loved spending my hours with you and Dan and Laura and Sid. I just want you to know I am thinking of you all, with your endless support and love as a family. You all mean a lot to me and motivate me to work harder here each day so others will have more options when facing this disease.

I want you to know that all of your efforts change cancer care for those who are diagnosed with pancreas cancer today and going forward.

With love and admiration,

Zana

I do not words to express my sorrow. Please please let me know how I can help you and the family in the coming days, weeks, and months. As I stated previously I am working on having the lab named in his honor. I had hope we could have done so sooner, but I believe there is a good chance this will happen over the next few months. Best to all, Bill

Kathleen Peterson My sincere condolences! September 17, 2013

Dear Cathy:

There are no words at this time that can take away the pain that I know you, Laura and Dan are experiencing.  The love that you all shared as a family is what you will lean on each and every day as you have for the last 19 months.  Thank you for sharing his journey with us all.  I pray that you all will find the strength that you need now and in the future.  May your memories carry you to a place of comfort and of peace.

Fondly and sincerely,

Kathleen

When the time is right, I would like to submit a statement to ASHA announcing this great loss to the community.  Let me know when you think that time is.

Gary Dunham Our condolences September 17, 2013

Dear Cathy,

As ASHA’s Director of Publications and Editor-in-Chief of The ASHA Leader, I wanted to express our condolences for the loss of Sid. An outstanding scholar, committed editor, and an empathetic, good man—Sid touched us all in Publications, and we so much enjoyed working with him over the years. I first met Sid on my very first day on the job at ASHA, a few years ago at the ASHA convention. He took time to make me feel welcome and was very patient with my many questions as I got up to speed. God bless him.

An obituary, to which contributed many who cherish and value Sid, is now available in the new September online edition of The ASHA Leader and can be found at this URL address:  http://www.asha.org/Publications/leader/2013/130901/People--September-2013.htm. We hope it does justice to him.

I do want to note, Cathy, that the version of the obituary which appears in the September print issue is unfortunately incomplete, due to the many parties involved amidst an unusually intense flurry of last minute deadlines. On behalf of the staff, please accept our apologies; we will be issuing an erratum in the October print issue. I am grateful, though, that the definitive, searchable version of record in the online Leader archive is complete and readily available to all.

Our best to you.

Gary
