Unusual Saturday ...

Written March 31, 2012 7:32pm

I woke up today without any nausea, which was great … even was able to eat a first breakfast other than saltine crackers, which is what I’ve been eating the past few days.  And I wasn’t feeling light-headed and I had a bit more energy, which suggests that the low blood pressure I had yesterday was not such a factor today.  But, unfortunately, I noticed that I felt a bit warm (during the night and again this morning).  According to our thermometer, I had a temperature of 102.7.  I had had a low-grade fever at Piper yesterday of about 99.1, so this seemed like a trend.  We called Piper and, long story short, they sent me to the emergency room at the hospital attached to Piper.  They are going to evaluate me here and determine whether I need to be admitted for a 24-hour period.  Who knows when they are going to get around to doing that, but at least they put us in a separate waiting room, so I don’t have to be around people who are coughing, etc. This definitely is not the way I wanted to spend my Saturday!  If I am admitted, I hope it is a private room with a TV so I can watch the games …

Well, 4 hours and various tests later … they don’t really know what is causing the fever, but they decided to send me home with a prescription for an antibiotic.  (The ER doc said it was safer for me to be home than to be admitted to the hospital … music to my ears!) I’ll just have to watch my temperature closely to make sure it doesn’t spike up again.  It is not that uncommon for people receiving chemo to have fevers … just want to know if there is an infection causing it.

So, now I am home and getting ready to watch the Kansas-Ohio State game.  Finally.  More on that tomorrow …
