These past three days have been pretty good. I have been wakeful for almost the entire day. It is also great having somewhat of an appetite. That makes a huge difference in how I feel. The past 18 months have brought a heightened focus on what is important, and the past several weeks have only intensified that focus. Research and teaching are among the things I find most important and fulfilling. In recent years, I helped create and teach a seminar for undergraduates interested in pursuing a PhD and a career in speech and hearing research.
After talking with Cathy, Laura, and Dan, we have decided to create a memorial scholarship. We envision the Sid P. Bacon Memorial Research Scholarship going toward an undergraduate in the Department of Speech and Hearing Science who are interested in research.
For those wishing to contribute, memorial contributions may be made to the Sid P. Bacon Memorial Research Scholarship online at http://asufoundation.org/sidbaconscholarship or by mailing a check, made payable to the ASU Foundation, to the Department of Speech and Hearing Science, PO Box 870102, ASU, Tempe, AZ 85287-0102.
It has been an honor to work with so many fine colleagues and wonderful students over the years. I am hopeful that this scholarship will continue to contribute to the field for years to come, even if only in a small way.
We can’t thank you enough for all your support in this fight!
