We dropped my sister-in-law Carter off at the airport this morning.  It was nice to have more family around this weekend.  Dan is here all week.  Cathy and Laura continue to be the best caregivers anyone could ask for.

I've had low level pain today, and moderate nausea.  Eating is still a chore, but I'll keep trying.  We'll keep trying to find the right cocktail to control the pain and nausea.

Laura treated Cathy and I to a "Date Night" at home.  Laura got us tickets to a concert in the Desert Botanical Gardens several months back, which we were unable to make.  Tonight, we were sent to get dressed up.  When we returned, we were surprised with candles, desert plants, and a string quartet in our living room.  The West Vally Symphony String Quartet, made up of Dan's mother-in-law Cathy Worcester, Richard Chelpka, Jaime Johnson, and Melissa Baum, played a beautiful private concert for us.  Included is a picture from the evening.  We can't thank them enough for such a perfect evening.

Wiped-Out Wednesday

Written June 19, 2013 8:58pm

I woke up a little early this morning and had the energy to enjoy the cooler temps outside.  I was able to eat a little oatmeal and read the paper.  I wish it weren't so hot during the day, but at least I can enjoy the desert in the morning.

I continue to experience low pain, moderate nausea, and fairly high fatigue.  I decided to schedule a visit to Piper to get some fluids.  In the past these have helped me feel better overall.  I'm hopeful the same holds true this time around.

I also got some anti-nausea meds while at Piper, and those tend to wipe me out pretty well.  I slept for most of my visit and the rest of the afternoon.  Luckily, I was able to catch up with a lot of familiar faces at Piper before I got so sleepy.  I have been fortunate to meet so many caring and talented professionals at Piper; it is always a pleasure to see them.

Thanks for all your support. Team Bacon couldn't do it without you!

Good Thursday ...

I went to Piper yesterday for fluids; the fluids really help me feel better … it was nice to see my caregivers.

I’m having a good day today.  I slept in late (8:30) but have been up ever since.  And I don’t feel like I’m running out of energy.  I’m certainly fatigued and not ready to go on any walks.  But I do feel like I can stay awake for most of the day (it is 12:30 now).

This part of the journey is a bit tougher than the others … I am receiving excellent hospice care and Cathy, Laura and Dan are doing their part; Laura, in particular, has stepped up big-time; she has complete control of my medications. She modified the spreadsheet, making it easier to read. Cathy and I are learning the system …

It is fitting to end by thanking you all for helping in this fight.  We are not done fighting.

Go Team Bacon!

TGIF …

Another week … they have special meaning to me now …

I am still very weak, but I am more or less holding my own, which is good.

Liz arrived yesterday afternoon; she and Dan will drive home together on Saturday. It is great to have Laura, Dan, and Liz here hanging out, though the time flies by too fast.  They are incredibly good to me.

We enjoyed the Heat vs. Spurs game last night; Laura is a big Heat fan, so it isn’t hard to align with her and Miami.  It was game 7 of the best-of-7 series. Down to the wire. Exciting game.

We like our hospice nurse. He has been here about 3 times this past week (in the future it will be twice per week).  I have all sorts of “mobile” devices, from a walker to a wheel chair.  I needed the wheel chair last night. It was good to have it, as I was a bit wobbly on my feet.  Thanks for the assist, Dan!

As always, I want to thank you for all your love and support.  You are helping us in our fight against this pernicious disease.
